The Statement of Faith contains Schaeffer Academy’s foundational beliefs. These beliefs are key doctrines of historic protestant Christianity, and they will be taught unapologetically in various ways throughout all grade levels and courses.
Neither students nor their parents are required to affirm this statement of faith in order to enroll. However, affirmation is required of all faculty, staff, and board members as well as of parents wishing to be voting members or to hold positions of leadership within the school.
Statement of Faith
The Bible
We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God; inerrant in the original manuscripts. We believe the inerrancy of Scripture embraces not only religious truth, but also the Bible's scientific, historical, and literary features (II Timothy 3:15, II Peter 1:21).
God
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:1, Matthew 28: 19, John 10:30).
Creation and Mankind
We believe that creation was an act of God and that the creation of man was a specific act of God, so that man did not evolve from other species (Genesis 1:1- 2:7, John 1:3, I Corinthians 15:45-49). We believe that all men and women bear the image of God; that the gender of all men and women is determined by their biological sex; that sexual intimacy is to occur only within a marriage of one man and one woman; and that men and women are to govern all of creation according to rights and responsibilities given by God (Genesis 1:27-28, Genesis 2:4-25).
Jesus Christ
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 10:30-33); in his virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35); in his sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, Hebrews 7:26); in his miracles; in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood (I Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); in his bodily resurrection (John 11:25, I Corinthians 15:4); in his ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); and in his future personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11).
Human Sin
We believe that people are born with a sinful nature (Romans 3:23, Ephesians 2:3, Psalm 51) and are in need of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior (Romans 6:23).
The Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit who came forth from God to convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment (John 16:8); to regenerate, sanctify, comfort, indwell and enable the Christian to live a godly life (Titus 3:5, II Thessalonians 2:13, John 4:25-27).
Salvation
We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone as Lord and Savior and not as a result of works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Faith, which leads to salvation, will also be evidenced by good works (James 2:14-18). Therefore, we believe that those who repent of sin and receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again and shall be saved (Acts 2:38, Acts 4:12).
The Final Judgement
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved to the resurrection of life and they that are lost to the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).
The Unity of Believers
We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28).
