Christ’s Resurrection and Our Mission
Christ's resurrection, which we celebrated in a special way on Easter Sunday, is right at the heart of the Christian faith and right at the heart of our mission at Schaeffer Academy.
The great C.S. Lewis wrote:
"Christianity is a statement which, if false, is of no importance, and, if true, of infinite importance. The one thing it cannot be is moderately important" (in the essay "Christian Apologetics" in God in the Dock).
Our own Francis Schaeffer said:
"There is only one reason to be a Christian: Because it's true."
In other words, if Jesus Christ did not really resurrect in time and space, if his physical body did not actually come back to life - to everlasting life - then Christianity is not true, and everything we do at Schaeffer Academy is, at best, a waste of time.
Here's how the Apostle Paul, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, said it:
"If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied." (I Corinthians 15:17-19).
So, if Christ has not been raised, all Christians - including those of us at Schaeffer Academy - are pitiful!
Thankfully Jesus was raised. More than 500 people saw him alive again. That's a lot of eye witnesses, and many of them were unwilling to deny what they had seen even when tortured or killed. Because he was raised, we have great hope.
The Apostle Paul again:
"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive" (I Corinthians 15:20-22).
Since this is true, it is of infinite importance. It is of infinite importance for every aspect of our lives both now - which is why we seek to make the education offered here Christ-centered - and forever.
